Diagnostic Testing Services

Duct Testing This test is performed by connecting a duct blaster fan and a pressure tap to your duct work. The fan and its digital pressure gauge detect the quantity of air escaping through the ducting prior to making it to the conditioned living areas of your home. Air movement is calculated in Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM). A well sealed home will be at or near 10% duct leakage. Prior to duct sealing, vintage homes from the late 1800s to 1990s typically test out at 30% duct leakage on up. It is also not uncommon to discover disconnected ducting during this test.

Air Infiltration (Blower Door) Testing This test is performed by connecting a blower door fan and assembly to an exterior doorway of your home. By temporarily depressurizing your home, the fan and its digital pressure gauge detect the amount of air movement. Air movement is then calculated in Air Changes Per Hour (ACH). A well sealed home will be at or near 5 ACH. Prior to air sealing, vintage homes from the late 1800s to 1990s typically test out at double this amount on up.

Weatherization Services

Insulation We offer competitive pricing on ATTIC, WALL, FLOOR and DUCT insulation. It is important that insulation is installed correctly and free of compression. If not installed correctly, convective looping occurs where hot and cold air moves continuously in the insulating sytem and negates any effectiveness new insulation could provide. New insulation creates an amazing difference in comfort. Streamline will assist in selecting the right insulation product for your particular situation and ensure proper installation. We regularly use green insulation products such as Knauff Ecobatts and blown-in cellulose.

Duct Sealing Our duct sealing involves application of low volatile organic compound (VOC) mastic paste sealant on the furnace, every plenum (where duct runs converge or separate), every ducting connection (every 2, 4 or 6 Ft. in a duct run), every Y (where two duct runs split), all ducting elbows (a 90° bend in the duct run), all register boots (attached to each register) and all registers (what you see from the inside of your living spaces).

Air Sealing Our air sealing involves weatherstripping exterior doors, attic and crawl hatches. In addition, we use a combination of expandable foam and low VOC silicones to seal plumbing and wiring penetrations between conditioned living areas and unconditioned space such as a crawl space, basement and attic. When accessible we also seal the home's rim joists (horizontal framing running the perimeter of the home and sits on the foundation wall), top plates (horizontal framing running along the top of a framed wall), and any other penetration where air can infiltrate or escape (e.g. recessed can lights).
